Taylor Swift and Dancing Years

I’ve been listening to the same two sets of music this week: T Swizzle’s new album and a delightful discovery in the form of Dancing Years.

Taylor Swift’s new album Red has been on constant repeat in the Hopwood household. We’ve been big fans for years now and openly so. My favourite songs on the album thus far are:

  • I knew You Were Trouble
  • All Too Well
  • We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (it took me a while to appreciate this one, now I’m slightly obsessed)
  • The Last Time (the perfect combination of Snow Patrol and Taylor Swift, so lovely!)

Dancing Years have everything I look for in a band; jumpers, facial hair, trumpets and a chorus of all the above singing their little lungs out. Here’s a little live snippet of them performing live – I  absolutely love the way this track builds.

Susanne Sundfør and Wise Children

I had the pleasure of seeing three great acts at the Notting Hill Arts Club last night, two of them particularly shone out: Wise Children, and Susanne Sundfør.

Wise Children have been on my radar for quite a while now so it was lovely to finally see them live, here’s my favourite song from the EP:

I hadn’t heard of Susanne Sundfør before last night’s gig, but apparently she’s really well known in Sweden – and rightly so – her  voice was amazing. White Foxes was my highlight of her performance:

Keaton Henson, Kronos

What with the release of the lovely Lucy Rose’s Like I Used to, and Mumford and Sons Babel, today’s track could have been overlook had I not received an email from the man himself* encouraging me to listen out for it, and boy am I glad I did. Usually known for his downbeat, super depressing musings, Keaton Henson isn’t one to get those feet tapping. But Kronos is epic. It’s full of anger, electric guitar and oomph, for Keaton Henson it’s quite a departure from his usual style, but darn does he get it spot on.

For full effect, listen to You Don’t Know How Lucky You Are first:

Then listen to Kronos:

Lucy Rose ‘Like I Used To’

I’m super excited to start the week with the release of Lucy Rose’s debut album ‘Like I used To‘, I’ve been listening to her Soundcloud page for yonks now so it’ll be nice to actually own her music – especially as there are a number of tracks I haven’t seen her perform live on the album so it should be a real treat.

‘Bikes’ is her current single and it’s accompanied but the cutest video. Have a listen!

Breakfast Beats

A little treat for you this morning – The Candy Bar Creep Show EP by MS MR. I’ve had the tracks Hurricane and Bones on repeat at home for a while but finally bought the whole EP this week. It’s oozing with slick beats and lush (yup totally lush) vocals.

The Rubens

I first heard of The Rubens through triplej Unearthed, and have been eagerly awaiting their debut album. It was finally released this week in Australia, and I can happily say my copy is in the post as we speak. In the meantime I’ve been getting my fill thanks to youtube…here’s a current favourite. Never Be The Same Again.
